North Oregon Coast
Starting at Sam's family cabin in Naselle, WA we fueled up with an English breakfast and delicious grape juice before heading south into Oregon to check out Fort Stevens State Park. We saw the far NW tip of the state at the Columbia River South Jetty Observation Tower, did some birding, and I finally saw Wreck of the Peter Iredale which is in the park.
Next we headed down south to Kelly's Brighton Marina and went crabbing! I drove the boat which meant that Sam did all of the baiting, tossing, and pulling of the traps. They did a stupendous job and we caught three huge and tumescent keepers. One of the best parts of crabbing at Kelly's is that they cook the crabs you catch right when you get back to shore. They cooked up our bounty and we ordered some clams, corn, and raw oysters to go with. It was the perfect amount of crab and always feels so amazing to be eating while looking out at the very waters that fed us.
We finished out a great day of food with a trip to the proclaimed birthplace of the corn dog, Rockaway Pronto Pup. With our newly acquired corn dog energy we caught a beautiful sunset at Ecola State Park just north of Cannon Beach.
